[WP] In 2011 you were part of a top secret government experiment which turned your Brain into a super computer with internet access. You’ve been working on your vengeance for years, by mining Bitcoins.
I know that the number of addresses (or public keys) possible for Bitcoin is vast. Something analogous to the number of "atoms in the universe". But! What if a supercomputer started just generating public and private keys, 24 hours a day, for years. Isn't it possible that eventually a very powerful computer or network of computers could generate say .0001% of public/private keys? And in doing so, have access to a very small fraction of BTC? Even moreso, a quantum computer? I do not know the math or the numbers, but I am assuming the scale is just too large to "map out" .0001% of Bitcoin key pairs, even with super powerful computers? But I would love to hear some math and numbers behind why this isn't possible, and not just words saying "Not possible!".
Thinking about making a super processor (computer?) with old phones and laptops to mine bitcoin. Worth the time & energy investment?
I'm a college student and I've been lurking this subreddit for a while. to me it seems like bitcoin is something worth getting into for the sake of paying off my college debt. Except I'm broke and i don't have the money to invest traditionally. To all the miners out there, is this a good way to get started if I have the resources?
Ball park estimates: If all the world's computational power, sans bitcoin ASICS, started mining....what would be the approx hashrate? (eg: mobile phones, PCs, gaming PCs, macs, consoles, super computers, IoT toasters... anything)
A British supercomputer hacked last week was among a group of big beasts targeted around the world to mine cryptocurrency, it has emerged. If a supercomputer were to run bitcoin mining now, not much would change at the hashrate. Also, the success of the supercomputer would be controversial, since it is highly inefficient compared to the Asics. Probably so incompetent that the cost of running electricity is higher than the revenue it would generate. One estimate states that the 500 fastest supercomputers in the world can’t ...
